Lead Legal Strategy: Develop and execute cluster and regional legal strategies aligned with business objectives, working closely with the wider legal team (at local, regional and central levels) to ensure compliance and risk mitigation across Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
Provide Legal Counsel: Offer expert legal advice on a wide range of operational and business matters including corporate governance, intellectual property, employment, data privacy, competition, marketing, logistics and regulatory compliance.
Government Affairs: In collaboration with the regional public affairs team, support issues management on public policy topics within Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar; where needed, represent the company in engaging government officials.
Contract Negotiations & Drafting: Lead, draft, and negotiate complex contracts with third-party partners, suppliers, and stakeholders to support business growth and mitigate legal risks.
Manage Litigation & Disputes: Oversee legal disputes and litigation, managing investigations and resolving legal issues effectively across the CLM markets.
External Legal Relationships: Instruct and manage external law firms and legal advisors to ensure alignment with business needs and legal requirements.
Corporate Governance & Compliance: Oversee corporate secretarial responsibilities, including drafting resolutions, minutes of meetings, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
Policy Implementation: Localize and implement internal policies in collaboration with the Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) team, ensuring alignment with regional and global standards.
Collaboration Across Teams: Work closely with teams across departments to align legal strategies with business goals and drive operational efficiency.
What do you bring to the table?
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior legal role, ideally in commercial law with reputable law firms or as in-house counsel, particularly in e-commerce or internet companies. Experience in startup/technology environments will be a significant advantage.
Industry Expertise: Strong understanding of the legal frameworks in Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, with the ability to manage legal risks and compliance across these diverse markets.
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Drive.
Strategic & Commercial Acumen: Commercially astute, with the ability to think pragmatically, balancing legal risk with business objectives.
Influencing & Leadership: Strong influencing, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to drive change and collaborate effectively across teams and markets.
Fluency: Fluency in English (both written and verbal) is required for effective communication and stakeholder management.
