pandapurpose 2023: Delivering with purpose to local communities across Asia

Posting date: 12 July 2024

At foodpanda, we deliver more than just meals to millions of customers across 400 cities in 11 markets. We’re also dedicated to creating value for our community of customers, vendors, and delivery partners. Here’s a brief recap of what we achieved together in 2023.

Supporting our Vendors

Partnering with foodpanda means more than just business; it’s about creating lasting, positive impact for our valued vendors.

In 2023, more than 83,000 small businesses hopped onboard foodpanda. By leveraging our platform, these businesses were able to go digital, expand their reach to a larger online customer base, and manage deliveries more efficiently.

Among these small businesses are home chefs - individual cooks who earn a livelihood by selling food from their homes. 80% of our home chefs in Bangladesh and Pakistan are women. Find out how we empower women to become their own bosses through inspiring stories of our female home chefs below.

Empowering Our Delivery Partners

foodpanda recognises that delivery partners are the backbone of our operations and we are committed to supporting them.

To recognise our delivery partners' hard work and dedication, we offered various rewards such as foodpanda vouchers - with over €2 million in rewards redeemed in 2023.

foodpanda aims to do more in the coming months, with our recent launch of “panda hearts” to uplift and support delivery partners in 5 core areas: safety, well-being, personal development, community and welfare perks.

We also saw a 30% decrease in accident rates since 2022, with regular road safety initiatives across the region. For instance, in countries like Pakistan, we partnered with the licensing authority to help our delivery partners obtain their driving licenses.

Additionally, we saw a 35% increase in delivery partners with personal accident coverage since 2021. To safeguard their welfare, foodpanda partners with insurance providers to provide delivery partners with subsidised insurance at a preferred rate.

As part of panda hearts, we are excited to introduce several new initiatives that fall under the 5 core areas of panda hearts:

  • Personal development: We will be offering bursary awards for our delivery partners in Singapore, providing them with opportunities to pursue further education and enhance their skill sets.

  • We will also be launching scholarship programs for the children of our delivery partners in Laos and Cambodia, ensuring they have the opportunity to achieve their educational aspirations.

  • Welfare perks: We are committed to supporting our delivery partners in Thailand by subsidising the rental of electric vehicles. This initiative not only aims to reduce the financial burden on our delivery partners but also promotes sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options.

Stay tuned as we roll out these exciting programs and more, reaffirming our commitment to the well-being and growth of our foodpanda family.

Enhancing our Customer Experience

At foodpanda, our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we are dedicated to continuously enhancing their experience.

Over 10,000 affordable meals were purchased under Malaysia’s Menu Rahmah initiative. In support of the government’s initiative to alleviate economic and cost of living pressures for Malaysians, foodpanda customers can order Menu Rahmah lunch or dinner sets from the app and website at the affordable price of RM5 or less.

We are committed to continuously improving the customer experience, implementing over 250 app improvements for better customer experience in 2023 alone.

Furthermore, with the support of our customers, over 300,000 meals were donated to local food banks and the World Food Programme in 2023. Together, we foster an ecosystem where the foodpanda community uplifts each other.
